Natural Selection - Biology Through Science

Natural Selection - Biology Through ScienceIn our society, we are increasingly becoming interested in the field of biology and the study of evolution. The common misconception is that it is not real biology. In fact, the two fields are extremely similar and can provide the student with a rewarding and interesting curriculum. In the United States, there are a lot of people who are becoming interested in studying the different fields of evolution. One of the most popular places to look is online. There are many online courses that are available that teach how to be more familiar with the science behind evolution. From a very young age, students are taught about what the various theories are, and how they relate to each other.Teaching Evolution through Biology There are many methods to learning about evolution and the sciences that affect the same topic. Students can either take classes online or on campus. In the first instance, it is good to check out different biology courses online t o see which ones match up with your interests. There are some science courses that can be taken online through various colleges and universities. One popular online school that offers a decent amount of online biology classes is MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses). This type of course is taking off, and many more people are choosing this method for their science education. It is a very popular and affordable way to learn. If you do not have a lot of time, it is possible to attend class on campus at many colleges. The classroom approach is also fine for those who have already attended a science class. For those who would like to re-do their education, they can get this information from on-campus courses offered by science and biology departments. There are numerous online classes offered at local colleges, but this is not the case for all courses offered.Classes For Science Students Before you even consider taking a biology class online, it is best to go to a college or university in t he country that offers a biology class. Make sure you understand the syllabus before you attend. You can usually find these and make sure you get everything you need.Taking Biology Online These classes are all taught through the use of videos. You will get access to tutorials on a wide variety of topics, and you can even sign up for chat rooms to keep in touch with other students. There is also the option of emailing others that are taking the same class as you. Make sure you go through the entire syllabus before signing up for a class, as some will be different from others.Prerequisites For Biology Class What is the best way to make sure you get an online biology class? Some universities require that you have a specific level of biology before you can register for the class. Make sure you check this out and find out if you need a specific kind of biology class before registering. Getting into a science class online is a good thing, but if you do not understand anything from the syl labus, then you could probably benefit from having a regular biology class.

Convert To Mixed Number

Convert To Mixed Number Convert to mixed number is a number which is written in the form of a whole number and a fraction. Mixed number is in the form of combination of whole number and a proper fraction. In everyday use, mixed numbers are better to understand. There are various types of fractions. They are proper fraction, improper fraction and mixed number. Improper fraction can be converted into mixed number but a proper fraction cannot be converted. Improper fraction has numerator larger than it denominator. In mathematics improper fractions are better than a mixed number when used in problem solving. Example 1:Write the fraction 22/7 as a mixed number Solution: To convert improper fraction into mixed number we perform division method (Remember that we are not dividing the fraction) Take 22 divide by 7, find out the quotient and remainder When we divide 22 / 7 we get quotient = 3 and remainder = 1 Therefore, 22/7 = 3 1/7 is the mixed number. Example 2: The winner of class president got 3/8 of the vote. If 200 students voted, how many students voted for the winner? Solution: Vote he got = 5/8 Number of students = 100 To find the number of students voted for the winner, multiply the fraction of the vote he got and the number of students voted Therefore, 5/8 X 100 = 500/8 = 125/2 Take 125 divide by 4, find out the quotient and remainder We would get quotient = 31 and remainder = 1. Therefore, 250/4 = 31 From the above examples we understood method of converting to mixed fractions.

Should Your First Music Lessons be 30, 45, or 60 Minutes Long

Should Your First Music Lessons be 30, 45, or 60 Minutes Long Suzy S. Youve found a great music teacher and are ready to book but if youre not sure how long your lessons should be, youre not alone! Read on for some helpful advice from Greensboro, NC teacher Alanna H... When first starting music lessons, either for your child or yourself, it’s hard to know how long your lessons should be. Eventually many students can work up to 60-minute lessons if they want to, but where is a good place to start? Heres my advice: 30-Minute Music Lessons Young children (elementary school and most middle schoolers) Students who have never played the instrument before 30-minute lessons are great for young children and people brand new to the instrument. If you have a young child (middle school or younger) who is new to the instrument, I would definitely start with half an hour. In addition to not having the playing endurance, young students often don’t have the attention span to get full use of an hour or a 45-minute lesson. There are of course always exceptions, but that is a good rule of thumb. Adult beginners might also find that 30 minutes is the best for them endurance-wise. 45-Minute Music Lessons Children who are serious about learning the instrument Adult students who have never played before 45-minute lessons are great for adult beginners, high schoolers, and younger children with a keen interest in music and longer-than-average attention span. 60-Minute Music Lessons For serious music students, or students preparing for auditions or competitions, 60-minute lessons are ideal. An ideal candidate for a 60-minute lesson practices regularly and therefore has built up the playing endurance to feel comfortable all the way through the lesson. Music lesson length can also be determined by the actual time you have available, as well as budget, and those are perfectly acceptable reasons to choose a certain lesson length. If you still feel unsure about how long the first music lessons should be, contact a TakeLessons Student Counselor, or speak with your teacher about your goals, experience, and schedule prior to your first lesson to get a recommendation. 5 Things Your Spanish Teacher Never Told You

5 Things Your Spanish Teacher Never Told You Suzy S. Want to learn a new language? If you took a Spanish class in high school or college, you may have faint memories of simple vocabulary words and Día de los Muertos parties. But Spanish can be much more than just a language elective in school. Read on as Carmichael, CA Spanish tutor  Joan B.  explains Spanish teachers relish the times when their students have “aha” moments; seeing students putting together all of the grammar, vocabulary, and colloquial understanding of the language to speak easily is one of the best parts of teaching the Spanish language. How do Spanish teachers do it? It can be challenging at times to teach the student at a level that is both comfortable and challenging for the student; to make sure that the student is meeting all of the benchmarks for language acquisition; and to keep it fun and engaging all the time. Read on to discover five things your teacher never told you in Spanish class, but that will greatly help you in your journey of learning Spanish now. 1. Your teacher is still learning, too!  Most Spanish teachers decide to teach Spanish because they have a strong passion for exploring the intricacies of the language and sharing it with others. This means that regardless of whether your teacher is a native speaker or learned Spanish just as you are currently learning it, he or she is still learning new ways of expressing things and current slang and trends in the language. It’s likely your Spanish teacher also engages in regular interaction in the language, speaking to other Spanish speakers in a variety of contexts. You can benefit from this knowledge that your teacher is learning alongside you because it can inspire you to view Spanish language acquisition as an enjoyable and enriching lifelong journey. The more you learn, the more you are exposed to the richness and depth of a language that offers conversational, travel, and literary explorations. You can also engage in using Spanish just as your teacher does: on the phone with a Spanish speaker, in line when you hear someone who is a Spanish-only speaker, while traveling, and much more! The possibilities for practice are only limited by your willingness to explore and expose yourself to new contexts. 2. Language learning is a team effort. If you view learning Spanish as a collaboration between you and your teacher, you will progress much more quickly. While teachers do a great deal of work to explain the concepts of the language to you, without your active participation, they are limited in their ability to help you. By listening carefully to his or her suggestions, and providing frequent feedback as to what you find confusing or challenging, your teacher can tailor the lessons more specifically to target areas that are most difficult to you. Viewing it as a collaboration also makes you a more responsible and active learner, meaning that you can explore on your own, look ahead to new material and come back to your next session with lots of questions, which leads me to the next thing your Spanish teacher never told you… 3. Spanish teachers love questions. You might hesitate to ask frequent questions for fear your teacher might think you are not so bright. To the contrary, asking questions signals you are paying close attention, interested in learning and bright enough to ask when you aren’t sure of something. Furthermore, asking questions helps your teacher to get a better idea of your level, so he or she can gain insight into what needs more practice and what is going well for you. 4. Spanish can help you get a job (or improve your resume or current standing in your company). In this economy of hyper-qualified applicants, speaking a second language, especially Spanish, can be the deciding factor between you and other applicants. Not only is Spanish incredibly useful for communication, knowing another language shows that you are persistent, resourceful, and open to learning new and challenging things. Having it on your resume is an asset, and in an interview you can explain further what learning and speaking Spanish means to you and about you. 5. You can go on vacation to learn Spanish. In combination with regular tutoring, taking a Spanish-language vacation can be a great way to immerse yourself in the language and culture and improve quickly. Your vacation could include living with a Spanish-speaking family or an immersion language course, among many other options. Sometimes, study and play go hand in hand, and Spanish language is one of those cases. Now that you know five things that your Spanish teacher never told you, go and explore! In your next lesson, ask your teacher about his or her experience learning Spanish and interacting with other speakers, participate actively in your lessons and ask lots of questions, add Spanish to your resume, and schedule your next vacation. All of these things will enhance your learning and help you to be speaking fluently and confidently in no time. Joan B. lives in  Carmichael, CA  and has been teaching high school Spanish for more than 18 years. A lover of language, she’s studied French, Arabic, and Italian and spent time living in Spain. Joan aims to help students improve on tests and increase their conversational ability when traveling to Spanish-speaking countries.  Learn more about Joan here! Interested in Private Lessons? Office Romance Pitfalls, Problems and Warnings - Introvert Whisperer

Introvert Whisperer / Office Romance Pitfalls, Problems and Warnings - Introvert Whisperer Office Romance: Pitfalls, Problems and Warnings There is no age group immune to the potential of an office romance.  There is also no way of telling how one will turn out and the impact it could have on you and your career.  If it happens to you and you are in those early stages of discovery, it’s also somewhat impossible to keep your head about you to realize the can of worms you may be opening up.   Workers get into these relationships every day and everyday people get fired, sued and derailed by what seemed so right. Office romances can spark easily because of the proximity, frequency, and availability of like-minded people.   You have many things in common with your co-workers, and when you add the sexual attraction that comes with it â€" POW!   This also falls into the category of things your mother never told you.   People don’t talk about this issue all that much, so you may not realize what the issue is. Granted there are places, like law enforcement, where “fraternization” is encouraged.  These are the exception, because those jobs demand employees’ time and commitment at a level most people outside of that community don’t understand.  I’m not addressing those work environments. The situations I am addressing are quite common and here are some serious things to consider: Company Policy   Many companies have policies that address their tolerance of inter-office dating. Some companies will go so far as to terminate the offending couple.   Violating policy is clearly a career-damaging act even if you don’t get fired.  It also doesn’t do much to enhance the relationship. Sexual Harassment   If one person is in a position of authority or management, dating can be perceived as anything from sexual harassment to favoritism by the peers. Even if both people enter into the relationship voluntarily, you have to think about the worst-case scenario.   What if the relationship breaks off and the subordinate in the relationship decides to claim sexual harassment?   It’s hard to think things will go bad, but it’s in that context where the worst is likely to happen. You have to also consider the favoritism reaction. The peers will start grumbling amongst each other, and it will eventually work its way up the food chain.   When it arrives at the higher up’s office, most likely there will be demands of fairness, missed opportunities and a whole list of issues.   While none of this is likely to be valid, the perception is the reality for others and that will weigh heavily on many people’s minds.   Your judgment is now questioned.   Not good. Performance perception   As people in the office start noticing the lunch and coffee breaks, they will also start creating stories about both of you slacking off. This creates a dysfunctional environment, because they may not trust that you are focused or as committed as you were before the fling started.   When you miss something (which we all do periodically), it will confirm their belief about you.   You’ve now created your own perception issue. Let’s not forget, this is a romance thing    The statistics aren’t in your favor that it will be a long term relationship. When it stops and you’re still working together, you are now faced with working with an EX.  It won’t matter who had the break-up idea, facing each other will be difficult.   The post break up could negatively impact your performance, which you may be powerless to change.   You are faced with a minimum of uncomfortable situations to a maximum of not holding it together well enough to do your job. It’s understandable how an office romance can develop.   However, there are so many compelling, career- changing reasons to avoid them that I hope this serves as an early warning to stop and take a breather before going further. Phone Safety

Phone Safety Phone Safety ChaptersPhone Security MeasuresMonitor Online Accounts and Social MediaLimit App DownloadsThink Before You WriteSince a lot of us spend half of the day glued to our mobile phones, and the other half having them within reach, it’s worth considering the idea of phone safety.Phone safety refers to how you can keep your personal information, and your location private, at all times.Due to the fact that pretty much any phone these days can act as a beacon emitting your location to the world through GPS tracking, it’s prudent to read up on how you can prevent disclosing too much information about yourself. On top of location tracking services, phones can act as a gateway to all of your personal information. Whether you have such information stored in your notes (you probably shouldn’t) or in social media accounts or messages with people you trust, there is always a risk that it could be compromised. In order to help you protect your personal data and stay safe with your technology, we†™ve compiled this list of actionable steps you can take right now towards a more secure relationship with your phone. You can stay safe online with our guide, and with the following steps. They won’t be able to access your private accounts, nor download Angry Birds onto your phone without your consent. When possible, choose the more complex option when it comes to creating a passcode. Just like with a password, the longer a passcode is, the harder it is to crack.Take care with the passcodes that require a specific movement to unlock, since these can be relatively easily replicated by anyone who sees you do it.Deactivate These FeaturesSmartphones these days are full of features. Some exciting, some redundant, and some downright scary at times.Location SharingLocation sharing falls into the latter category. Ever taken some photos in your back garden, only for your phone to categorise them under the name of your hometown without you asking it to?That’s because phone’s are equipped with the latest in GPS technology, which allows them - and phone companies - to know where we are at all times. Since we tend to always have our phones on us, it can seem like there’s no escaping it.What’s more, this location s haring feature will give away your location to any apps you decide to download on a whim. That could be bad news, since there’s something unsettling about the fact that dozens of companies essentially have access to your exact location at all times. However, don’t worry, there is a simple fix: turn off the location sharing setting. LifeHacker has a great article on how to turn it off in case you were wondering. Once you’ve done this, you’ll not only be grateful for the extended battery life, but you’ll also feel a lot safer in the knowledge that your every move isn’t being tracked.BluetoothOnce you’re satisfied that you aren’t giving away your location to everyone who’s interested, the next feature you should turn your attention to when it comes to phone safety, is bluetooth.Something which is always activated, yet rarely used, it’s worth asking yourself if you really need to have your bluetooth turned on all the time.Bluetooth is great for pairing your phone with your car to play music, or linking up to your headphones so you can go wireless for your workouts, but it also opens the doors to other people.By that I mean, people can access your phone via Bluetooth. If you have it on at all times, you’re essentially inviting people to try and hack into your phone. The best solution to this, is to keep it turned off. Of course, there will be moments where you want to use it, which is fine, but when you’re not make sure to switch it off again.Think of it as a light in your home. Turn it on when you need to use it, then switch it off again when you don’t.Check your Privacy SettingsLastly, regarding easily fixed security issues with your phone, you should review your privacy settings, and make sure they are to your liking.Acting as a safeguard against potential security issues, the privacy settings are there to help you take control of your phone safety, and stay on top of any threats. The main things you can do through the privacy settings wil l be related to the apps you've downloaded. By restricting the access they are granted, you will be able to feel more at ease, and give away less personal information.Monitor Online Accounts and Social Media Keep tabs on your online accounts.Something you may not have considered when it comes to personal safety, and keeping your information private, is the accounts you are connected to.Due to the fast-moving nature of work and society in general, we often find ourselves flitting from e-mail account, to social media account, to bank account. The fact that we can do this so easily its highly convenient. However, this can come at a cost.If you’re not careful, you’ll leave the door open to your private information by not logging out of your important accounts.Phones are designed to make our lives easier, but that doesn’t mean safer. The option to save our login details and keep us connected to our accounts through our device can be great, but it can also grant strangers access to them should we lose or misplace it.To remedy this, it’s advisable to manually log in and log out of all your accounts, especially those which contain sensitive information.Apps are the worst offenders in some cases, since they will encourage you to save your details and make the process more streamlined.Limit App Downloads Apps are great, but think before you download.Speaking of apps, it’s best to err on the side of caution, and limit yourself to a select number of them.Don’t get me wrong, apps are incredible, and their utility at times is unquestionable. However, the more apps you download, the higher the chance that you will stumble across something unsavoury. Most apps won’t affect your phone, or compromise your personal data, but every now and again, a dodgy app can slip through unnoticed and pass on malware to your phone. As a result, you should stick to fewer apps, and that way give less people access to your information.Even if your location sharing is already turned off, apps will still have quite a lot of access to your information. Unless, as we said earlier, you manage the app permissions in your privacy settings, which I would highly recommend.I know it’s tempting to want every fun game or useful app on the store, since there are so many, but if you value phone safety then you should ensure you place limits on the number of apps you download.Think Before You WriteAside from calling, texting, and generally keeping up with people, another reason we want our phones with us at all times, is to take notes and store useful information. For example, you’re on the bus and you’ve just remembered something really important you have to do when you get home. What do you do? Write it in the notes application I imagine. This is all well and good until it comes to sensitive information. Just like you shouldn't really write down your credit card PIN number, or your passwords on paper, you shouldn’t write them in your phone either. As incredibly convenient as it is to have all of the important information you need at your fingertips, it’s never a good idea to have such information somewhere people can find it.All you’d have to do is lose your phone, leave the bluetooth on a moment too long, or be unfortunate enough to have it stolen, and all that information will be comp romised. This applies to messages too. If you’ve ever sent personal information like bank details or your home address out to friends or family, then you should go back and remove evidence of these interactions, to preserve your data. The gist of it is, only store on your phone what you wouldn’t mind someone seeing should push come to shove. If you follow this rule, then you shouldn’t have any problems with phone safety.
